A documentary that examines the 1989 case of five black and Latino teenagers who were convicted of raping a white woman in Central Park. After having spent between 6 and 13 years each in prison, a serial rapist confessed to the crime.

THE BUZZ: Ken Burns's newest is a departure from his broad, cultural documentaries that have made him a public-broadcasting staple. For his first-ever theatrical release, Burns examines a crime that tore up the city of New York and arguably marred Ed Koch's mayoral administration just as much as his lack of response to the AIDS epidemic. It will make for brutal viewing, to be sure, and it will most likely shares column space with West of Memphis this awards season.
